Designing effective interactive systems requires understanding the needs and capabilities of the people who will be using them. In this course we will examine human capabilities and behavior as they relate to the design of interactive information systems. We will survey contemporary theories and findings from the social sciences (especially psychology), with special attention to how these concepts influence the way we design for human interaction. The readings for the course will draw from both the social science literature and the literature on human-computer interaction, as we explore the links between behavioral science and system design.
